Germination stimulants: a promising example for plant protection based upon ecological studies

The authors present the use of germination stimulants against parasitic weeds belonging to the genera Striga and Orobanche, which cause significant damages in the tropical and subtropical areas. The application of these stimulants is promising example for the plant protection founded on ecological studies. The paper gives a short accounting on the discovery, chemical synthesis and the advanced research aiming their agricultural use
