This paper discusses the structure of the national herd in Hungary since the introduction of20000 Holstein heifers and cows from the USA and Canada 30 years ago.Data on the number of cows and yearly milk production in Hungary between 1990-1997, milk production data of different breeds during a standard lactation,and the estimated breeding values of bulls between 1985-1993 are presented in table form.
