Mordanting mechanism of flavone and flavonol pigments

In order to investigate the mordanting mechanism of myricitrin, rutin and baicalin with metallic salts,the ultraviolet-visible spectra of these pigments in aqueous solutions were examined in the presence of aluminum perchlorate and HCl. The changes in the absorption spectra of the pigments were followed as a function of molar ratio of aluminum ion to pigment molecule or pH of the solution. From the results, the constitution of the aluminum complex of the pigments and the stability of the complex to acid were discussed. Silk fabrics were dyed with the pigments and aftermordanted with several metallic salt. After dying for the silk fabrics surface color of it was shown on the a*b* diagram of the L*a*b* colorimetric system
