New method of fertilization on forced alternate bearings of late maturing satuma [Citrus unshiu] 'Aoshima Unsyu' as a means of producing high quality fruits

We tried to established a new method of fertilizer application to forced alternate bearings of immature 'Aoshima Unsyu' trees. In years with good harvest amount of fertilizer applied of the new method was increased more 30% N, P2O5 and K2O than the conventional method respectively. In years with poor harvest it was decreased less 30% of them and only 4 kg/10a of N was applied before summer pruning. It was possible to produce a small number of extra large fruit of 2L class or more and to increase the yield and sugar content of juice. To investigate the effects of this method on trees a follow up study of 15N was carried out.
