Effects of water stress and fruit truss shading on properties in cherry tomato [Lycopersicon esculentum] fruit

Cherry tomato cv. "Mini Carol" (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) was conducted under the conditions of fruit truss shading and soil water stress using sand beds in greenhouse to assess the water stress for fruit quality. Soil water content was controlled for two cases of dry and humid conditions from the readings of soil moisture meter. For each case,no and 90% shading treatments were also imposed. Temperature in the greenhouse and fruit were measured on selected 4 days. Harvested fruits were analyzed in terms of vitamin C, fructose, glucose, citric acid, and malic acid contents. Vitamin C contents for fresh fruit were high in limited soil water content, and the shading treatment reduced the vitamin c contents. Under no shading treatments, both fructose and glucose contents per fresh weight in dry condition was higher than the content in control. As for its content per dry weight, however, there was no difference between two soil water levels. Furthermore, citric and malic acid contents tended to increase under low water content condition. These results could suggest that under water stress condition the contents of components included in fruit can be primarily by the reducing fruit water accumulation, and secondarily by the light exposure or t temperature effect
