Forcing of statice (Limonium sinuatum Mill.) by low temperature treatment of seedlings with illumination to prevent their rot

Recently Static (Limonium sinuatum Mill.) has become one of major cut flower because of being available year-round production by suing seed vernalization and chilling of seedlings. However, in the case of chilling, storage of seedlings for long periods in dark condition have a danger to rot them. To overcome this problem, the effect of illumination during chilling of seedlings was investigated to prevent their rot. 1) The degree of browning of expanded leaves were reduced and rot of seedlings was completely prevented when illumination was accompanied. 2) The plants vernalized by chilling with illumination at 2-3 degrees C for 50 days produced a greater number of cut flowers till the end of January. 3) When seedlings with 15 expanded leaves were chilled, the highest yield of cut flowers were obtained. 4) Flowering of early planting was started at the middle of August, whereas many of cut flowers were low quality of short stem. It was observed that planting time at the beginning of September resulted in high quality flowers production from the beginning of November
