[Impact of Ca top-dressing on the yield, formation and quality of onions]

Onion is one of the most widely grown vegetables in Latvia. Optimal content of Ca*[2+) in the soil is one of the most important factors that influence the yield. Investigations on the impact of Ca top-dressing on the yield, quality and storage of onion under Latvia conditions were carried out in Pure Horticultural Research Station for two years. It was concluded that Ca top-dressing had no significant impact on the total yield of onion, but it had some impact on the standard production outcome. The optimal top-dressing system was found when splitting the fertilizer into two applications in the vegetation season.
