Ultracytochemical study of Cladophora frecta interphase nucleolus

Silver staining technique was applied on Cladophora frecta cells, which present large sized nucleolus. In this species, nucleolus shows a heterogeneous organization due to the presence of a coarse, contorted filamentous structure known nucleolonema which are dense and fibrillar in texture. The results indicate the positive reaction mainly in dense fibrillar components, which corresponds to ribonucleoproteins (RNP).
