[Preservation of the gene pool of forest tree species in state forest enterprises through approved stands and plus trees]

The analysis of the status and prospects of the conservation and use of forest tree gene resources in the state forest enterprises is presented. The results indicate a general decrease in the number of plus trees in 1990, while the area of approved seed collection stands decreased proportionally with the change of ownership structure. Especially the area of approved stands of the category II B (partly protected) is insufficient. With regard to current situation, expected consumption, and comparison with other countries, the number of plus trees and area of approved stands should increase by 2010
