Effect of root size on yield and quality of carrot (Daucus carota L.) seeds

This experiment was conducted between the years of 1997-99 to find out the effect of steckling size on seed yield and quality of carrot (Nantes and Brilliance cultivars). For this purpose, steckling roots are divided into three groups according to their diameter, length and weight as large size, medium size and small size. According to experiment results, steckling root size has been found influencive on flowering period, maturation of seeds, plant length, number of umbels per plant, embryo length and Brilliance cultivar seed yield, 1000 seed weight, radicle and plumule length, emergence rate and Nantes cultivar number of seeds per gram, abnormal seedling rate but from a statistical point of view it hasn't been found influencive embryoless seeds, germination rate, normal seedling rate and emergence rate. Seed yield and germination rate were higher in large steckling size in Nantes (9.75 g/plant, 78%) and Brilliance cultivar (34.64 g/plant, 78.7%)
