Downstream gate control in an experimental channel has been investigated at the hydraulic laboratory of the Civil Engineering Faculty in Subotica (Serbia, Yugoslavia). Water depth monitoring, data processing and computations were combined to enable an efficient gate control. Through only upstream-end depth being measured, combined with an unsteady-flow mathematical model, accurate water levels along the entire channel were obtained. Designed gate-control modulus (a control-device and appropriate software) enables maintaining the water-level upstream of the gate within the prescribed limits.
