Enrichment of the last running spend grains liquor for xanthan biosynthesis

The aim of this study was to test effects of addition of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium on biosynthesis of xanthane in a complex medium based on the last running. Quality of the biosynthesis process was established on the basic of xanthane yield and rheological properties of the fermented liquid. Reference strain and its own reisolated strain were used as production microorganisms. The investigations shows that the best results are obtained in the medium containing 0.4 K2HPO4. Presence of MgSO4x7H2O has a favourable effect on biosynthesis, while addition of (NH4)2SO4 does not make any significant effects. In all experiments, biosynthesis has better quality, with respect to yield and rheological characteristics, if reference isolated strain is applied.
