A study was conducted in order to assess the effect of six different production methods (direct sowing, transplants with bare roots and bagged transplants on normal and covered soil) on the growth dynamics, yield and quality of celery. Field experiments were conducted in region of Semberia (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 1995 and 1996. The experiment was established on the calcareous chernozem soil. Production method affect considerably the growth dynamics as well as the yield and quality of celery. The bagged transplants had the most intensive growth (4.6 g/day/plant). The bagged transplants produced the highest yields of leaves and roots, 31.0 t/ha (10.9% more than the directly sown seeds) and 38.8 t/ha (16.4% more than the directly sown seeds), respectively.
