The possibility of winter cabbage cultivation on the open field and influence of planting date and cultivar on cabbage head quality, yield and content of dry matter were investigated under the agroecological conditions in Zeta's plain (Montenegro, Yugoslavia). The experiment was organized during 1996 and 1997. The planting data were: July 15, July 29, and August 13. The cultivars were Bartolo F1, Saratoga F1, and Hidena F1. The heads of cultivar Bartolo F1 and cabbage cultivars which were planted at July 15, were the weights and heads of Hidena F1 and cultivars planted at August 13 were the lights. Length of internal stalk was highly or middle highly. In three planting data and three cultivars the heads of cabbage were very compact and strong. The heads of Bartolo F1 cultivar were round shapes in the first and oval shapes in the second year of investigation. The content of dry matter showed that depends on planting date and it was the biggest in the third planting date. It was not established that this depends on cultivar. The biggest average yield was in planting date at July 15, Bartolo F1 had the biggest yield among the cultivars. The smallest yield was established in planting date at August 13 and by Hidena F1 cultivar. The cabbage planting during July showed better results then cabbage planting during August.
