The effect of cropping system on the production of wheat
2000
Milosev, D.
The effect of cropping system on the dynamics of organogenesis, dynamics of leaf area index (LAI), net assimilation rate (LAR), organic matter forming, yield components and yield of winter wheat was examined in long-term field trials (crop rotations) which had been established on a chernozem soil. It was conducted on the basis of a three-year investigation that a three-crop rotation (crop, soybean, wheat), combined with manuring and fertilization, exhibits the most favourable effect on the dynamics of plant development, LAI, LAR, as well as the agricultural yield. Large differences in the yield and the morphological traits of plants were exhibited between the intensive and the extensive cropping systems, in favor of the former ones. The differences between the unfertilized two-crop and three-crop rotations pointed out the importance of annual legumes in the rotation. Deep plowing did not bring significant yield increases except in the unfertilized variants.
