Characterisation of barley anther culture regenerants

The ploidy level and fertility of 62 plants from two barley cultivars, regenerated in anther culture was estimated. The androgenetic regenerants population (A1) is compared with the initial cultivar Igri through the means and variation coefficient for two economically important traits. 95.2% of all regenerants were diploid, 3.2% - tetraploid and 1.6% - haploid. 92% of all regenerants were of normal fertility, 4.8% - of reduced fertility and 3.2% - completely sterile. No statistically significant difference between means for plant height and spikelenght was found by comparison between the dihaploid regenerants and initial cultivar.
