Lecheva, I. (Vissh Selskostopanski Institut, Plovdiv (Bulgaria))
Results are presented from a study on Baris timida Rossi. which was found for the first time as a pest on the marsh mallow in Bulgaria. An increase of the population density of adults was obserwed from 0,2 to 1,0 adult on a plant in 1996 and 1,6 - 10,0 adults in 1997. The species has one generation per year and overwinters as an adult. The adults appear and feed on the plants in May-June which produce numberous holes on the leaves. The greatest damage is caused by the larvae which are making tunnels in the stems. In 1997 when population density was the highest the plants retard their development and died.
