State of epicuticular waxes of Norway spruce in the north-eastern part of the Ore Mts in 1997 and 2000

Analysis of epicuticular waxes state in Norway spruce (Picea abies) was carried out in the Ore Mts in the spring 1997. Epicuticular waxes in needles from stands situated in higher altitudes were strongly damaged. Control sampling in the same localities was carried out in the year 2000. Damage of epicuticular waxes was lower than in the year 1997. This finding may be explained by decrease of air-pollution in the Ore Mts. However, the conditions for healthy growth of Norway spruce are still not optimal in this region.
