Vegetation dynamics of abondanced madows of Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class in the Podkrkonosi [the piedmont of Giant Mts]

In the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic (Podkrkonosi) there was established a trial to study the changes in botanical composition and species representation on the non-cultivated grasslands. The six experimental meadows were established in 1995, they belong to the class Molinio-Arrhenatheretea, classified in the Arrhenatherion alliance and Cynosurion alliance. Plant communities were described in the framework of the Braun-Blanquet system. A trend of biomass cumulating and a large expansion of some species (Rubus sp., Calamagrostis epigejos) were observed. There was not found a significant dominance increase of weed and ruderal species. Some meadows have been colonized by forest trees species.
