[Silage maize - a source of cheap energy]

The article summarizes main data about silage maize production in the Czech Republic and presents some recommendations for maize cultivation in order to achieve good silage quality. In 2000, the maize production area in the Czech Republic was 224,340 ha, average yields ranged from 32.31 to 38.10 t/ha and production costs varied between 381 and 475 CZK/ha.
