Reports on state of water management in the Czech Republic document continuous improvement of surface water quality, but concentrations of phosphorus and nitrogen compounds do not markedly decrease. Biomass of cyanobacteria and algae develops during the vegetation season both in standing and running waters. Phytoplankton biomass values are used for assessment of surface water eutrophication. The map "State of trophy of important watercourses and reservoirs in the Czech Republic" presented in this article is based on the data from regular monitoring of water quality in rivers and important reservoirs.
