Analytical parameters and sensorial properties of 11 % beers brewed from 2001 crop barleys were assessed. Six samples of barleys from different regions in the Czech Republic were malted. In most cases, analytical parameters were better than those of the precedent year. The malts showed low concentrations of protein, soluble nitrogen and beta-glucans. The values of DFLU extract difference were good, pH values of hopped wort were low (5.5 in average). The diacetyl concentration in beer was less than 10 mg/L, whereas the concentration of dimethyl sulfide precursors was relatively high. Enzyme activity of the malts was very good. All beers showed an excellent filtrability. The sensorial properties of brewed beers were assessed as good to average. The samples from various regions showed better equability in their quality than in the preceding years. The quality of 2001 barley was the highest one in the last three years.
