Precision farming takes advantage of detailed, spatially specific information on soils and plants in order to put more exactly the inputs that advance crop production. The usefulness of soil conductivity mapping stems from the fact that there is a relationship between electrical conductivity and some of soil properties, e.g. water holding capacity, topsoil depth, ion exchange capacity, organic mater content, nutrient content, and subsoil layer characteristics, which all significantly influence production potential. Concerning precision farming applications, soil electrical conductivity maps provide the highest value when compared by GIS software with other infomation layers as are yield maps, fertility sampling data, soil surveys, local agronomic knowlidge, etc. This helps to reduce input costs such as those of seeds, fertilizers, and protection chemicals, helps to increase yields, and provides benefits to the environment.
