The aim of this study was to analyse Falco tinnunculus and Asio otus nesting in artificial nest boxes made of plastic cans. These were installed on a plot (500 square km) in the district of Prostejov (Czech Republic) within the project of the Biological population control of the vole (Microtus arvalis). After the increase and stabilisation of prey birds' and owls' populations, 1,500 plastic boxes were distributed during the year 1996. Up to the year 1998 131 plastic cans (9.73 %) were accepted by F. tinnunculus and 32 boxes (2.13 %) by A. otus. Nearly all young birds survived due to sufficient food resources. The number of young birds corresponded to the average number observed in the nature.
