The aim of the seed potato production is to produce true-to-type disease-free seed material of a high yield capacity. A special technology for propagation and growing the disease-free initial plant material is created in Research Center EVIKA. Multiplied plants are not always of the same productivity and seed tubers of uniform size. For gaining stable results it is necessary to study the factors that may influence the productivity of potato plants. The aim of the current research was to study the influence of pre-growing treatment and cultivar on the productivity of potato meristemplants and on the formation of tubers of optimal seed size. In the first generation test-fields the influence of five pre-planting conditions and three cultivars were studied. The current research demonstrated that the productivity of meristemplants as well as the formation of tubers of a seed size depended on the cultivar and on the mutual influence of pre-planting treatment and cultivar. More and bigger tubers were obtained on the plants that were grown in greenhouse. Plants that were grown outdoors formed tubers of optimum size but the number of tubers remained low. In the case of cultivars 'Varaiane kollane' and 'Ants' the best results were obtained in outdoor treatment. For cultivar 'Ando' pre-planting growing in greenhouse was optimal
