Quantitative change of humus on some soils around Ghinchi and Holetta
1996
Tesfu Kebede (IAR, Addis Abeba (Ethiopia))
The main agronomical characteristics of soils are known to be determined by the presence of humus. the humus status of two soils from the highland regions of Ethiopia was investigated to find out the influence of cultivation on the humus content. The study included a general physical and chemical characterization. The results of the study showed that the degree of humification on both soil types (vertisol and Nitosol) is low due, mainly, to intensive farming which actually caused a drastic decline in organic matter. Cultivation at both sites has changed the forms of humus when compared with that of uncultivated soil.
