The Rhône Alpes Region is characterised by mountainous areas, with a "terroir" image and where organic farming is developing. Market demand for organic produces, for quality produces and for origin-labelled produces is increasing, but these three criteria have been rarely combined. This paper deals with the feasibility of a regional protection of organic produces from the Rhône Alpes Region. This study was requested by the regional organic association (CORABIO) to ISARA and supported in the framework of regional policy, the "PIDA Agriculture Biologique" (Programme Intégré de Développement Agricole). As a first step, European and national regulations have been analysed in order to study the possibility for a produce to be protected both by geographic protection labels (like Protected Designation of Origin or Protected Geographic Indication or "Mention Montagne") and by organic regulation. Then an in-deapth analysis was carried out in three areas of the Rhône Alpes Region and strengths and weaknesses of the different stakeholders strategies have been brought to light
