Greenouse growing of vegetables is a significant sector of horticulture in Hungary, mainly because greenhouses are heated by geothermal energy. Soil-borne pests and diseases are the most important factors limiting greenhouse growing. Nematode pests, among them root-gall nematodes, cause high levels of infestation, not only in greenhouses, but also in the fields. The only effective protection against soil-borne pests is provided by soil disinfestation with different chemicals, mainly with methyl bromide.
