The levels of abscisic acid (ABA), soluble protein, free amino acids and proline content as influenced by benzyl adenine (BA) and ascorbic acid (AA) were estimated under moisture stress and after subsequent rewatering in senna leaves. ABA levels increased with increasing level of water stress and decreased after rewatering within 24 h. BA significantly decreased the ABA level under irrigated as well as water stress condition, while AA did not show any effect. Soluble protein decreased but free amino acids content exhibited an increasing trend with increasing levels of water stress. AA enhanced the proline content more than 10 times under stress as compared to irrigated condition. BA caused a negative response showing a decrease in ABA level.
