Optimization of farm income in and outside Mula irrigation command area : use of linear programming technique.

The result have indicated that in Mula command area, the sample farmers grown as many as 18 crops with 85.65 % irrigated area. The existing cropping pattern in command area is of diversified and of multi-cropping nature (18 crops) with an average net returns of Rs. 22460/ ha. The results of the optimal crop plan suggest that the farmers should take up only 7 crops. Which will fetch the net returns of Rs. 25810/ha, i. e. an increase by 14.92% By relaxing the availability of some of the resources, revised optimal crop plan was derived, which has shown an increase of 17.90% in net income over existing-crop plan. The optimal crop plan so derived has shown comparatively more rigidity for the changes in net returns (prices from the activities) and also for the changes of resource supplies. The more or less the same types of results have been obtained from the sample farmers in non-command area adjacent of Mule command area. However, the number of crops grown and the magnitude of net returns in this region is substantially low than in command area. It is concluded that there is potential for increasing the net returns in both the regions with greater feasibility of crop plans for varying returns and resources.
