Genetics of leaf weight and carbohydrate content in Tossa jute

Genetic behaviour of leaf weight and carbohydrate content of seven parents and their 21 F1s (without reciprocals) has been estimated following combining ability analysis. Non-additive gene effect was noticed in sugar content and additive gene effect was in fresh and dry leaf weight and starch content. The parents palmate leaf, tobacco leaf and JRO-632 are better general combiners whereas crumpled leaf, yellow mutant, stiff stemmed and ribbon leaf are the poor. Majority of the cross combinations involving poor x poor general combiners gave high SCA effects.
