Forms of sulphur in relation to soil characteristics in some soil series of Nagaland

The results of study on different forms of sulphur and their relationship with soil characteristics in thirty six soil series belonging to Entisols, Inceptisols, Alfisols and Mollisols occuring on various land forms in the state of Nagaland Indicated that nearly 10.3 per cent of the total-S was present in organic form, 87.2 per cent in non-sulphate form and 2.5 per cent in sulphate form. Total and sulphate-S had a significant positive correlation with organic carbon and negative one with pH, whereas organic and non sulphate-S maintained a significantly positive relationship with organic carbon. All forms of sulphur had significant and positive relationship with each other. Valley soils were found to be highest in all the forms of sulphur.
