Genetic Variation Among and Within Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) Landraces in Jordan

Genetic variation among and within 17 eggplant (solanum melongena L.) landraces, in addition to three check cultivars, were estimated based on morphological differences among individual plants in the field. Four landraces, and one check cultivar were further analysed to detect inter and intra accession variation at the DNA level using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. The following characters were studied: days to flowering, days to harvesting, number of fruits per plant, growth habit, fruit length, fruit length/breadth ratio, fruit curvature and fruit color.
