Effects of harvesting intensities, felling cycle and NPK fertilizer on the performance of bamboo species under Pampanga [Philippines] condition

Results of the study showed that with kawayan-tinik, application of Treatment 6 (with fertilizer, 100% harvesting every year of bamboos that were three years old and older) resulted in the highest total number of culms harvested for the eight-year period with a value of 16.4851. For Kawayan-Kiling [Bambusa vulgaris] results showed that Treatment 2 (with fertilizer, 50% harvesting every year of culms that were three years older and older) attained the highest total number of culms harvested for the eight-year period with a value of 39.82. For both bayog [Bambusa sp.] and bolo [Gigantochloa levis] Treatment 6 had the highest total number of culms harvested for the four-year period with a value of 49.65 and 34.65, respectively. Overall results showed that the best harvesting technology for Kawayan-tinik, bayog and bolo was the 100% cutting of three-year-old culms and above. The three species preferred harvesting of culms every year. They also needed fertilization for the improvement and increased shoot and culm production. However, for kawayan-kiling, cutting of 50% of three years old and above; harvesting every year; and applying fertilizer were found to be very effective in terms of shoot and culm production
