Performance of milking cows of varying blood composition under three feeding management systems

Three feeding management systems (A1-indoors with corn silage; A2-outdoors, day and night grazing; A3-day indoors and night grazing) and three blood composition; (B1-50-75% Holstein Friesien (HF) x 50-25% Red Sindhi (RS); B2- 81.25-87.5% HF x 18.75-12.5% RS; B3- 90.63-100% HF x 9.37-0% RS) were studied on 50 milking cows using 3 x 3 factorial in completely randomized design. Cows on A1 had significantly (P.05) lower dry matter intake compared to those on A2 and A3. No significant differences in actual milk production were found. Projected 305-ME- 4% FCM production was significantly (P.05 higher in A3 (3629 kg) than A1 (3076 kg) and A2 (3085 kg) while lower in B3 (2760 kg) compared to B1 (3698) and B2 (3333 kg). Decrease in milk and fat and total solids was observed with increasing HF blood above 81.25%. Post-partum heat manifestation was 26-31 days in all treatments. The number of services per conception was significantly (P.05) different between B1 (2.1) and B3 (3.3) but was insignificant among the feeding systems. Body weight changes were significantly different (P.05) among treatment means. Weight loss was observed in A1 and B3 while the animals in A2 and A3, B1 and B2 gained weight. The cost of producing a kilogram milk was Php 1.19, 0.77, 0.82, 0.89 and 1.00 for A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3, respectively. Feeding system A1 was significantly (P.05) more than A2 and A3. Under conditions of this study, A3 and B1 were found most favorable for better performance of lactating cows
