Effect of rations of different lipid levels on the growth, food conversion efficiency and lipid contents of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)

Five diets differing in their lipid level were prepared. The control diet was commercially available Koi carp pellet. The experimental diets were formulated from fish meal, eggs and a commercially available lipid additive. The lipid levels in diets A, B, C, D and E were 8.31%, 6.11%, 8.85%, 13.51% and 17.96%, respectively. The fish were killed and initial and final lengths and weights used to determine growth and food conversion efficiencies. Samples of muscle and viscera were removed and analyzed for their lipid content. There were no significant differences in the growth indices and food conversion efficiencies of the five diets due to protein sparing effects of the lipid additive. There were no significant differences in the lipid contents of the muscle or viscera of fish fed the five diets. The lipid levels of the feed were not high enough to have detrimental effects on the fish and they may result in beneficial consequences. The findings of present investigation are in line with previous research.
