Total phenolics and condensed tannins were determined in the mature leaves of 30 Alchemilla L. (Rosaceae) species collected from the alpine and subalpine regions of Northeast Anatolia (Turkey). The content of total phenolics was found to be significantly different in leaf extracts of A. barbatiflora, A. cimilensis, A. erythropoda, A. sericata, A. rizensis, and A. daghestanica. Among these species, the highest level of total phenolic content was found in the leaves of A. cimilensis (138.9 mg phenol eq/dry wt). The level of total phenolics ranged between 91 and 138.8 mg phenol eq/dry wt. Total content of condensed tannins in leaf extracts of A. sintenisii, A. orthotricha, A. hirtipedicellata, A. oriturcica, A. orduensis, A. mollis, A. dura, A. erythropoda, A. rizensis and A. daghestanica was found to be significantly different (P = 0.05). The levels of condensed tannins ranged between 85.8 and 127.9 mg tannic acid eq/g dry wt. The results are discussed from taxonomical point of view
