Calculation of sperm releasing rate of rabbit buck after epididymis ligation

Five White New Zealand rabbit bucks were used in this study to find out the release rate of spermatozoa from epididymis to vas deferens. Where the bucks were subjected to an easy operation for epididymis ligation to render them to infertile state. Males were left for one week, then after three semen ejaculates were collected in that order: one sample after one week and the two following after 14 and 15 days of epididymis ligation, respectively. The obtained results showed that both semen volume and sperm concentration varied significantly among different ejaculate. Sperm concentration reached 30 million sperm per millilitre semen ejaculate after 14 days of epididymis ligation while it reached zero after 15 days. It could be concluded that sperm passage rate in rabbit buck epididymis is 30 million sperm per day and spermatogenic cycle could take seven days in male rabbits
