The paper discusses the use of biofilters for the treatment of waste air from animal houses. The sorption capacity of various filtration materials is compared together with the effect of some additive substances and starting cultures. Results of experiments stress the necessity for optimum ranges of water content in the filtering material and show the effect of pH and temperature on microbial processes in the biofilter substrate
