We performed the analyses of lucerne silage (n 46) during the years 1990-1998 in Slovakia. We elaborated a survey of nutrient content with emphasis on crude fibre, ADF and NDF and parameters of nutritive value derived from them. The results show variable values of the whole fibre component. We determined crude fibre min 197, max 416 g/kg d.m., ADF 292-593 g/kg d.m., NDF 292-632 g/kg d.m. in samples of silage. NDF and ADF proportion can be used as parameter of energy value estimation under the following conditions only: the feed must be a standard one, it is necessary to take the content of dry matter and other nutritives into account, i.e. minimize the variability in starting material. It is necessary to analyze the given problem with multifactorial effect in more details and broader context in future
