Characterization and pathogenicity of Xanthomonas campestris pathovars isolated from infected mungbean leaves

Biochemical characteristics and pathogenic determination of xanthomonads isolated from infected mungbean leaf (Xcm) were studied and compared to Xanthomonas campestris pv. glycines caused bacterial pustule of soybean (Xcg). The 2 strains were pathogenic both on inoculated mungbean and soybean which all bacteriological characteristics tested were not taxonomic difference. However, Xcm and Xcg strains showed higher aggressiveness on mungbean than soybean and soybean than mungbean, respectively. The results of those studies confirmed that the Xanthomonads isolated from mungbean leaf spot was X. campestris pv. glycines (Nakano) Dye. Comparision of disease severity and yield of 7-mungbean varieties infected by Xcm revealed that Kamphaengsaen 1 was moderately resistance; Kamphaengsaen 2 was tolerance; Mor-Or 1 and Pitsanulok 2 were tolerance; Chainat 30 and Chainat 60 were moderately tolerance: Uthong 1 was most susceptible.
