Mong Cai is a local famous sows. Farmers in the North and Central parts of Vietnam often use local feed resources for feeding them with poorly nutrient content in the diet (special poor protein and energy). Consequently Mong Cai gilts is low growth rate, first mating is late and food conversion ration is high. So we have been carrying out project "The effect of protein levels on the growth rate of Mong Cai gilts kept in Trieu Hai state farm". Sixteen Mong Cai Gilts was selected and devided into 4 treatments with 4 levels of protein content in the diet (8, 10, 12 and 14 percent CP). Result shows that best of treatment 3 with 12 percent of CP: Mong Cai gilts have good growth rate, early puberty and heavier body weight at first mating compare with other treatments. We suggest that 12-14 percent of crude protein in the diet is suitable for Mong Cai gilts.
