Investigations of cellulose and mineral lignification degree in perennial grasses, legumes and Festololium hybrids

Cellulose and mineral lignification degree was evaluated in native forage crop cultivars, such as tall fescue K-20, Italian ryegrass K-13, K-29 tetra, meadow fescue K-21, orchard grass K-6, red clover K-9, white clover K-33, lucerne K-22 and birds foot trifolium K-37 as well as in festololium hybrids Hykor, Perun, Felina and Becva. The material analysed comprised three cuts. All examined species had highest lignin content in the 3rd cut, except for red clover (1st cut). Lignin content was highest in birds foot trefoil (82.6, 81.6 and 91.1 g/kg DM) and lowest in white clover (32.2, 35.2 and 42.0 g/kg DM). In perennial grasses, cellulose lignification coefficients in the 1st cut were not higher than 0.20, in the 2nd cut were in the 0.21 - 0.26 range, whereas in the 3rd cut about 0.30. Birds foot trefoil had highest cellulose lignification coefficients; 0.37, 0.42 and 0.40. Perennial grasses and Festololium hybrids had even 10 times higher lignificated minerals content compared with legumes. Festololium hybrids had up to 32.64% of total minerals lignificated, whilst legumes had highest per cent of lignificated minerals 14.36.
