Thin-layer chromatography of some heterocyclic nitrogen compounds

Heterocyclic nitrogen compounds are interesting because the most of them are biologically active. The retention behaviour of some heterocyclic nitrogen compounds, i.e. derivatives of benzotriazole, benzimidazole, quinoline, indole, tetrazole, pyrazine and some purine bases, was studied by thin layer chromatography (TLC) on silica gel and cellulose utilizing the different eluents. Chromatographic behaviour of compounds depends on their molecular structure, the nature and polarity of eluent and the nature of stationary phase. Silica gel and water as mobile phase is the most convenient system for all investigated compounds.
