The state and perspectives in the field of industrial production and processing of vegetables in Vojvodina (Serbia, Yugoslavia), which has large potentials for industrial production of vegetables, are presented in this paper. Modern technique for mechanized harvesting of vegetables intended for industrial processing (peas, green beans, sweet corn, tomato, root and bulbous vegetables, seasoning pepper) mean application of self-propelled combines which carry out all operations in one passing. There are high productive machines with very complex technical and technological schemes, with hydrostatic drive of walking mechanism and hydraulic drive of technological and transportation devices, with regulation of working regime depending on working conditions. There are presented the results of investigations on modern combines for harvesting of peas, green beans, sweet corn, and on basic characteristics of modern self-propelled combines for harvesting of tomato, root-like and bulbous vegetables.
