Field and storage pests of field crops' seed

This book deals with the pests occurring on the reproductive organs of field crops during their cultivation in the field and on stored field crops' seed. About 170 pest species are discussed, including nematodes, mites, millipedes, insects, birds and mammals. Of that number, 75% are harmful insects, which are major field and storage pests. About 140 of the considered pests attack the reproductive organs (buds, flowers and seed) of field crops during their cultivation in the field. The proportions of the animal classes are: Nematoda 0.7%, Acarina 2.6%, Myriapoda 1.4%, Insecta 75.3%, Aves 9.1% and Mammalia 10.6%. Within the class of insects, about 110 species are discussed as pests of the plant reproductive organs. The proportions of the insect genera according to the number of species are: Orthoptera 3.7%, Dermaptera 0.9%, Homoptera 11.2%, Heteroptera 11.2%, Thysanoptera 9.3%, Coleoptera 28.0%, Lepidoptera 17.8%, Hymenoptera 1.9% and Diptera 15.9%. The genera Coleoptera and Lepidoptera are distinguished for the number of harmful species and their economic importance. About 30 harmful species attack field crops' seed on storage. Of that number, 80% are insects and 20% are species from the classes Acarina, Aves and Rodentia. Harmful insects are distinguished for the number harmful species and their economic importance.
