This work has two main aims. The first consists of the evaluation of the distribution uniformity of four spray treatments performed in a cordon-trained and stub-pruned vineyard. The treatments differ in the inclination of the nozzles (centred, high and low), pressure (20 and 10 bar) and distributed volume (2,520 and 1,830 liter per ha). The second aim involves tracing a correlation between leaf deposits and deposits observed on a vertical test bench. Looking at the first issue, tests showed that the normalised leaf deposit does not differ between the four treatments. This prompted further low pressure experiments as these involve a lower degree of product loss due to drift and consumes less water, although final conclusions remain to be drawn on the basis of biological assay. Moreover, tests showed that the differences in leaf deposits at varying plant heights are influenced by the distribution diagram as well as by dripping and drift, which should be taken into consideration in order to ensure the optimum setting and control of the spray machinery. As far as the second aim of this paper is concerned, a linear correlation coefficient of 0.82 was found. This is quite high and indicates that the use of a test bench for establishing correct and efficient spray settings should be looked at further, especially when crop culture, breeding techniques and phenology are also taken into account.
