The whole article is a review of up-to date information about infection with Salmonellae in the swine. Both clinical and economic aspects of the disease are presented. The disease aetiology, pathogenesis and transmission are detailed. Swine as well as pork meat are the main source of new strains of Salmonella typhimurium which can cause serious alimentary infections. Special attention is drawn to the pentaresistant phagotype DT 104 with the antibiotic profile ACSSuT. Nowadays, borderless spreading of these agents is alarming and protection of breeding animals and pork meat production farms has become an urgent task for meat-consumers protection and maintenance of safety in food production.
