The paper analyzes production and reproductive parameters (wheight gain, backfat thickness, lean body mass (LBM), number of newborn piglets - total and born alive, number and weight of piglets at 21 days) and their interactions in Large White (LW) and White Meat (WM) breeds reared in the farm Kruzno, Rimavska Sobota (Slovak Republic). The highest LBM values and the lowest backfat thickness were achieved at weight gains below 500 g. The highest weight gains were achieved when the LBM was lower than 52 %, while the highest backfat thickness was achieved when the LBM was higher than 55 %. The best reproductive performance (average of 6 litters) was observed in the WM breed. The highest number of piglets was recorded when the backfat thickness ranged from 0.9 to 1.3 cm and the LBM from 52 to 55 %. Our results indicate that it is necessary to take into account interactions between production and reproduction in selection programs.
