High amounts of grass feeds in the diets for bulls raised for slaughter at high weight

A feeding experiment was carried out with two groups of Lithuanian Black-and-White bull calves raised for slaughtering to determine the influence of intensive raising of bulls (from birth to 600 kg) based on plentiful use of grass feeds and different amounts of concentrates on weight gains and feed intake of bulls and the economic efficiency. The effect of different weight (550 and 600 kg) of bulls on the meat percentage and meat quality of carcasses has been also analysed. The length of the experiment was from 638 to 667 days. The results from the experiment indicated that intake of experiment indicated that intake of grass feeds was increased if the level of concentrated feeds in the diet was lower. If bulls are fed high amounts of quality grass feeds, the latter can make up to 70 per cent of the nutritive value of the diet. During the whole period of bull fattening, reduction of the amount of concentrated feeds by 25 per cent or from 2.5 to 1.8 kg per animal daily had no significant influence on the growth of bulls, their meat percentage, meat quality and economic efficiency of fattening
